You are the
curious person to visit this page:
This is a "Chalk Talk" that you will find some kind of variation at hashes throughout the world. The purpose is to have examples of different marks that you will find on a trail that you might be on. These marking are written in chalk or flour. Below you will find the individual descriptions of each mark, as well as some hash related items at the end.

FLOUR (HASH) - You may find splotches of flour that will be on a trail that you may be following. The flour is generally directed trail as it can meander through the Shiggy (any off road location) and may not always be in a straight line. Generally mean the same as arrows. This may be a trail that can change to arrows anytime and go back and forth. Found on trails that can be good or bad. Can usually be found on the ground, though can be placed anywhere from the chest down on walls and different objects. In order for a trail to be a "good" trail, you must find at least three of these marks in a row.
ARROW - This arrow shows an actual direction that the trail you are on
should follow. This may be a trail that can change to flour anytime and go
back and forth. Found on trails that can be good or bad. Can usually be
found on the ground, though can be placed anywhere from the chest down on walls
and different objects. In order for a trail to be a "good" trail, you must find
at least three of these marks in a row.
HARROW - If you see this written in flour or chalk, you have found a "True Trail" and will not be misdirected until the next Split Trail or Checking. It may also mean that there is a long straightaway and the Hare is too lazy to write several marks that are not needed. Can usually be found on the ground, though can be placed anywhere from the chest down on walls and different objects.
SPLIT TRAIL - This is a point on the trail where it forks off into two or more different directions. Remember the arrows point in a direction the trail should go and trail can usually be found within 50ft from the mark. Considered true trail and on the correct path to find the beer.
CHECKING - This mark signifies that the trail is going to change directions. It can go off 359o in any direction and trail can usually be found within 50ft from this mark. SPLIT TRAIL - This is a point on the trail where it forks off into two or more different directions. Remember the arrows point in a direction the trail should go and trail can usually be found within 50ft from the mark. Considered true trail and on the correct path to find the beer.
BLOWJOB - This is a mark that you do not actually see on trail. In order for a trail to be a "good" trail, you must find at least three of these marks in a row. However, when you only get one or two marks, you have just gotten a Blowjob. Go back to the last true mark and look for another trail. May find more than one of these at any split trail or checking.
ON-BACK - An on-back can usually be found on a false trail that has at least three or more marks. Distance of false trail is up to the hare. Imagine it as an imaginary wall. Turn around and go back to the last true mark and look for another trail. May find more than one of these at any split trail or checking.
YOU'RE SCREWED - is similar to an on-back, though it can and usually is much longer. Go back to the last true mark and look for another trail. May find more than one of these at any split trail or checking.
This can be found anywhere you see arrows or flour. If while on a trail you come across this and a number (CB#4), count back that may arrows or splotches of flour, not including this mark. At the designated mark, it is now considered a checking and treat it as such. You may want to carry chalk with you to be able to re-mark the arrow of flour to a checking.
BORDER JUMPER - Being the Border Jumper Hash House, one simple tradition that we
have is that on every trail, if possible, we jump some sort or a boundary
or wall. IF you see this mark, you yell "Border Jumper" as you negotiate
the barrier/boundary.
BEER CHECK - IF you see one of these marks, look around and if you are not too late, you may find a nice cold beverage for you to enjoy. Can also be considered a checking. The hare will clarify this during the chalk talk.
TURTLE CHECK - When you see this mark, you should wait for the rest of the pack to arrive before going on to complete the rest of the trail. Usually placed in areas where the pack should stay together like when going trough an underground tunnel. Also used to slow the pack down in order to not catch the Hare.
ON ACROSS - You will usually find this mark instead of an arrow to tell you to
cross the area in the direction you are going.

BEER NEER - This means you are almost to the end of the trail and is usually
100ft from the end.
ON-IN - Means there may be a stop at a local drinking establishment or you are going to have to go in something to continue on the trail.
BIG VICIOUS DOG - Means there may be a loose dog in the area, or one big scary one behind a fence up ahead.
BE VERY CAREFUL - When you see this mark look for traffic or a slightly difficult part of the trail you will be crossing. Slippery ground, loose rocks, etc.
The following marks are not on every trail. You will usually see them when everyone knows each other and/or we are trying to play matchmaker. If you see any of these marks remember they are only voluntary and you do not have to do them. - No Pressure!!!!
BOOB CHECK - At this mark guys or lesbians may be waiting for the female hashers (harriets) to show us your boobies. Yeah, it makes the trail worthwhile sometimes.
PACKAGE CHECK - At this mark girls or homosexuals may be waiting for the male hashers (harriers) to check their package. Some males may also wait for the next females to check their package. Yeah, it makes the trail worthwhile sometimes.
CLOTHING EXCHANGE - At this mark you must wait for someone of the opposite gender (If Possible) and exchange any article of clothing or accessory on your body.
MOON SHOWN HERE - Usually when you see this mark you are supposed to moon someone. Simple huh?
